During the course of your placement you will learn many things, most of which will be beneficial to you on return to university and when eventually you start looking for a graduate position. Skills such as decision-making, time management, business awareness, communicating with people at different levels in the organization, presentation and IT skills are invaluable. You will also have the opportunity to develop softer skills of independence and natural authority to help your impact and influence on the people around you.
To reiterate, as a placement student in the UK, if you successfully complete at least a 3-month placement, you are eligible to apply for a sponsorship of £1,500 from Corus.
Similarly, two scholarships of £1,000 are awarded each year to undergraduate students who show excellence in the areas of Materials Science and Materials Engineering. The Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers award the prizes to outstanding candidates during their studies, in conjunction with Corus. Students who undertake an industrial training placement with Corus are encouraged as part of their own development to submit an application for this award. The application takes the form of a report on the project undertaken during their placement.
