When joining the IBM Industrial Trainee Scheme, you will become part of ‘Foundation’. Foundation is an internal IBM organisation that is responsible for managing the development of all our graduate hires. It provides a framework for orientation into IBM and ongoing training and career development. As Foundation also manages all the placement students, this will give you enormous benefits in terms of career development and networking opportunities with graduates and other IBM employees across our business.
You will be assigned a Professional Development Manager (PDM) in Foundation who will work closely with your day to day task manager to ensure you gain the most valuable work experience possible with IBM. The PDM will work with you to set your objectives, review your performance, help you develop your skills and help you with your future career planning
You will attend an induction course when you join IBM. This will provide you with the basic knowledge of IBM and its processes to make your transition into a commercial business environment as seamless as possible. You will be able to access the Learning@IBM website. Learning@IBM lets you create a dynamic learning plan, find specific training recommendations based on your job role and business unit, add your own activities and track your progress – all in one learning place.
You will also be encouraged to get involved in ‘giveback’ activities to develop your skills further during your placement. ‘Giveback’ programmes give something back to IBM or the community. These can include things such as working with school children, representing IBM on university campus or at schools to promote our recruitment schemes or getting involved with charity work.
