Engineering is at the heart of our industry. The efficiency and capability of our production facilities are the building blocks of a successful business. Our engineers’ skills are focused on safety, the environment, efficiency and meeting our customers’ requirements.

Mechanical Engineering: - The role of Mechanical Engineers varies hugely depending on the environment and location of your department. From dealing with enormous cranes that unload ocean going iron ships to intricate hydraulic systems in our rolling mills or even equipment procurement projects and planning of major maintenance. Mechanical engineers need to be flexible, knowledgeable and highly motivated.

Electrical Engineering: - Electrical Engineers are central to our business needs. Corus is a major user of electricity for our manufacturing operations and we need people to deal with those requirements. Whether your skills and interests lie in power distribution, massive drives, process control systems or general electrical systems, Corus has the role for you.

Civil Engineering: - Civil Engineering placements can expect a wide range of possible careers – ranging from a structural engineer in our rail consultancy business to a site engineer dealing with a large body of contractors, or even writing specifications for new buildings and structures.
You will need string interpersonal skills as well as technical knowledge and will have full support in developing skills where your interest lie.

Environmental Engineering: - Protection of the environment is a key consideration in a modern industry and the work of Environmental Engineers is an integral part of the day-to-day operations of the business to ensure ongoing legal compliance, continuous improvement and sustainable development. Environmental Engineers need a broad range of skills in order to effectively meet the environmental challenges facing the business.

Most people recruited into these functions joins a works engineering department where their initial responsibility can be to ensure that complex plant and equipment runs to maximum efficiency whilst also maintaining product safety, quality, and concern for the environment. You will join a mixed team that will include engineers, supervisors, and technicians and work with the latest equipment.

Corus has its own training centre based at Ashorne Hill Management College in Warwickshire. A careers awareness day is run at this training centre for high performing placements prior to their return to University. You will also receive on the job training.

The placement salary for a July 2009 start is £14,500 P/A. Generous holiday entitlement. Local benefits (e.g. gym membership, subsidised food costs).
