Training and Development

Tata Steel has the size and diversity to help tailor your career by providing real life projects from the outset and challenges that will be interesting, dynamic and relevant to your function.

Tata Steel employees are well regarded in the industry and by customers. They are highly valued, highly skilled and well trained. The following training and development opportunities are part of a range of possibilities that make up a tailored personal Development plan, depending on your performance, needs, and chosen career route.

The main training involves on the job training with immediate involvement in significant projects along with daily tasks. The development of soft skills is a key objective of the Tata Steel placement programme, due to the importance this area plays in the workplace for future years. An element of responsibility within our placements is therefore key in developing these along with teamwork, planning and organising and communication skills.

 Tata Steel

Individuals will work in an open communication / learning environment with regular meetings with their assigned manager to assess performance. The duration of this can range from a summer to 12-month period and ensures placements learn about our products, the company and the function they are based. Whilst working in a multinational environment, placement students will also experience how important company culture is in the workplace. Dependant upon the function that students apply to, additional internal function specific courses will also be run throughout the duration of the placement.

Our placement programme is, essentially, a way for Tata Steel to identify possible graduate recruits. Training and Development opportunities offered at Tata Steel are something that the company takes pride in and places real emphasis upon. Examples include; commitment to supporting every graduate in achieving professional accreditation in their chosen function, sponsorship for relevant academic courses, ongoing internal courses - both function specific and soft skills orientated, involvement in our international Business Management Competition, project activity (cross business or Tata Steel - wide), representing Tata Steel at University recruitment events, international assignments / projects and corporate social responsibility activity.
